God of the Valley

Why Mental Health?

October 15, 2020 / Joshua Sercey

A look at who God is and why it matters for mental health.

This week we launched our God of the Valley miniseries, focused on who God is and why knowing Him matters for specific issues like anxiety, depression, and addiction.

When we’re dealing with issues of mental health, it’s important to know why and how to enter the conversation. So in Part 1, Josh begins by looking at why this discussion is necessary for us in the church. Tune in as he unpacks our contextual, personal, and theological motivations behind pursuing wholeness in our mental health.

Key Ideas:

  • We are created in the image of God, and God has something to say to the very real mental health issues we experience.
  • This series does not minimize the importance and necessity of professional mental health support, but it does remind us as believers that the Lord cares for us and that the scriptures have something to offer us as we seek health and wholeness.
  • Isaiah 26:3-4 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
