Jesus the Great Philosopher

Savior, King, Messiah, and Shepherd. These are common titles given to Jesus that describe who he is to us, and speak directly to needs we all have as human beings. But consider this one: Philosopher. When we think of Jesus, we don’t often think of him as presenting us with a philosophy. But the truth is, Jesus is very concerned with the questions we ask as humans, including one central question: what is the good life? In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus presents to us a framework by which to see and embrace what he commends as the good life. As we’ll see in this series, the Sermon on the Mount is meant as an invitation into the wholeness and flourishing God intends, but in ways that go against much of what we would assume.
