Easter Sunday

April 9, 2023 / Michael Kelly

Pastor Michael Kelly, the founder of the Northwest Church Planting Network, teaches from Matthew 28 how the Easter story is about Jesus – the best and greatest of us – dying for the least and worst of us.

  • Everybody has a story about the resurrection. To most, it never happened. It’s been a story-fight from the very beginning.
  • Jesus bore our sins in His body on a tree that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. He died a judgment death not only at the hands of Rome but at the hands of our Father. In this, we have Jesus, the one that is the greatest, dying for the rest of us, the least and the worst, and taking our punishment.
  • Those who have been subjected by His grace and love fall down at His feet. That is the posture of the Christian faith. He is great, I am not.
  • We don’t think to or spend nearly enough time going to His feet with our money, relationships, bodies, passions, desires, dreams, families, church, etc. We need to bring all these to the feet of Jesus, the feet that were pierced for our transgressions (Isaiah 53:5).
  • Jesus gives us the commission of a shepherd and a commission of a king (Matthew 28:16-20). Lean in to life with Him by engaging His kingdom by being His disciples.
  • If you want to experience more of Jesus, do what He says. And when you inevitably don’t do what He says, He loves you anyway. He rose from the grave to tell you that He loves you.

COMMUNITY GROUP DISCUSSION:

Use the below questions to reflect on the message of the Gospel, the resurrection story at the center of the Christian faith:

  • Are you, or will you be, the one this story is for?
  • Are you, or will you admit that you are, among the least and the worst?
  • If not, what is holding you back?
  • The resurrection requires a response. How are you going to respond?
